Gavyn Nero wins City of POS Duathlon

Carifta multi-gold medalist Gavyn Nero proved on Sunday that he is the best duathlete in the country.
The 18-year old Fatima student won the third annual City of Port –on-Spain mini-Duathlon in a time of 58:56, twenty-one seconds ahead of last year’s winner Clarance Tobias, 34. In third spot was national triathlon champion Ancil Greene,32, with David Hay, 20, grabbing fourth spot.


Among the ladies, ever-green Diane Henderson, 46, was the winner in1:15.08, closely followed by another veteran Jacqueline Jodhan, 42, in second place, in 1:15.46. Third was Nina Chaves, 32, in 1:15.51.


Forty-four athletes took part in the 3km run/20km cycle/3km run event. There were seven relay teams, which was won my Team Guyana (Kelvin Johnson and Colin Wilson)

Twenty youngsters took part in the Under-15 duathlon with the overall winner being Joshua Ho, 10, son of Diane Henderson, followed by Alex Navarro, 11, and John Keane, 12. Among the girls Mohini Seejattan 12, of Penal Triathletes, was first , followed by Shenelle Ramoo, 13, and Lee-Anna Paul 12.


Pamenos Ballantyne of St. Vincent ran away with top honours in the 4km run, which took place under a heavy down pour. His time was 10:18.3, followed by Brian Maynard in 10:25.4 and Jules LaRode in 10.25.9.


Among the ladies, Kerticia John was first in 12.13.8, followed by Christine Regis in 13.31.4 and Dawnel Collymore in 13.41.4.
Sponosrs of the race included Unit Trust Corporation (UTC), Toyota, Blue Waters, Monster Energy Drink, Eve Fruit Juices, Kraft (Bryden’s), PPGPL, National Flour Mills, and BHP Billiton.
The successful event was orgainsed by the Rainbow Warriorw Triathlon club, led by nine-times former national triathlon champion Jason Gooding.
