second spot behind Reggie was Trinidadian Clarance
Tobias, 34, in 1:41.48, followed by David Hay,
20, in 1:43.29. Hay was first out of the water
with a time of 16:39, with Reggie almost two minutes
behind him. But by the second lap of the four
lap race, Reggie had over-taken Hay and established
an unbeatable lead.
Tobias, a strong runner, also
over-took Hay on the run-leg of the race and was
closing fast on Reggie before reaching the Grafton
Beach finish line to the cheers of hundreds of
spectators. Tobias crossed the finish line with
the national flag proudly flying on his back,
as did Reggie with his country’s colours.
Local champion Ancil Greene, 32, finished in fifth
place in 1: 47.20.
In second spot behind Stoney was Dr. Clare Morrall,
36, president of the Grenada Triathlon Association,
in a time of two hours and 54 seconds. She was
12th overall in the total field of 27. In third
position was Valarie Shoppell,26, of St. Croix.
The first Trinidadian female to finish was Lara
Littlepage, 30, who is just making her return
to triathlon, in a time of 2:09.15. She was 15th.
overall.
The event was started by THA Assembly woman, Claudia
Groome-Duke, who welcomed the triathletes to Tobago.
The 10-12 age group saw Sachin Sankar of Trinidad
finishing ahead of Joshua and Ty Abraham of Tobago
and among the girls, Mohini Seejattan,12, of the
Penal Triathletes finished ahead of Chelsea Mohammed
and Celete Calcut. Jean Marc Granderson won the
7-9 category ahead of Sachin Seejattan of Trinidad
and Luke Clarke of Tobago. In the 13-15 age group,
Akeil Baptiste turned the table on Tobagonian
Mark London who defeated him last year, but this
will be Akeil’s last year in this age group.
Shane Corbie was third. Kerlene Taylor was the
only brave girl in this age group to compete.
Then at 3pm saw the country’s top distance
runners facing the start of the 5km Charity fun/run
in support of the Black Rock Police Youth Group.
Seven-time marathon winner, Pamenos Ballantyne,
running for Team Toyota, topped the 76 other runners
in a time of 16: 23 to take the TT$3,000 first
prize; second was Tobagonian Curtis Cox in 16:38
and last year’s winner Elvis Turner of Tobago,
was third in 16:48. In fourth and fifth sports
were Kenrick Williams in 16:53 and Brian Maynard
in 16:48. The top four winners were running for
Team Toyota. The top corporate prize went to the
staff of the Grafton Beach Resort with the highest
number of participants.
Female winner of the 5km was Kerticha John in
a time of 20:17, followed by Christine Regis (20:07),
Susan Garcia (23:48), Carla Walcott (26.33) and
10-year-old Tobago sensation Tsaiane Leander in
27:05.

The next RWTC event will be the third annual City
of Port-of-Spain Duathlon and 4km fun/fun in the
heart of the capital on Sunday August 17, 2008.

The fifth annual Toyota Rainbow Cup International
Triathlon will take place at Grafton Beach, Tobago
on Saturday May 23, 2009.
And now that the THA has beautifully resurfaced
the entire course, (and Grafton Bay remains clear,
blue, clean and calm), the race is expected to
be on the ITU/PATCO Continental Cup calendar which
means that a higher quality of triathletes will
be coming to Tobago to compete for larger prizes
and world ranking points.
