Greene favorite for
Suez Mini-Duathlon on Sunday

Ancil Greene is favoured to win the Suez Energy Sunday mini-duathlon this Sunday, as long as last year's winner Clarence Tobias is not in the race. But Greene will be expecting stiff competition from fast improving Daniel Koo who placed third last year.

The Suez Energy Sunday Mini-duathlon (run/cycle/run) and 5km events take place this Sunday, March 9, in the Queen's Park Savannah, opposite TGIF on Victoria Avenue. The day's action begins with the 5km at 1pm, to be followed by the kids' duathlon and then the adult duathlon at around 2:30 pm.

The race is being hosted by the Rainbow Warriors Triathlon Club. Last year 216 runners competed and 70 duathletes. "This year we will be catering for only 500", said Race Organiser Jason Gooding, a former nine-time national triathlon champion, "We will have 410 runners in the 5km and 90 in the mini-duathlon races.

We are already up to 396 runners and about 40 in the duathlon. Once we have crossed the 410 mark we will open a stand-by list on race day and if we don't get the 90 duathletes, the numbers and timing chips will be given to the runners.

Gooding also welcomed on board a brand new sponsor for the event, Suez Energy International, an LNG company with 10 percent ownership of Atlantic LNG. Speaking at yesterday's media conference at the Dale Carnegie office in Uptown Mall, Edwards Street, Terrence Perez, Suez Energy International's Commercial manager, welcomed the opportunity to partner with the Rainbow Warriors Triathlon Club as one of the most professionally organized sports club in the country. "We see this partnership growing from strength to strength over the years to come", he said. Officials of Post Cereals will be staging a 15-minute warm-up and warm down and fun events like musical chairs and Easter egg hunt.

Other sponsors of the event include Blue Waters, Post Cereals, Monster Energy Drink, Toyota, and Tropical Rhythms. More information could be found on the club's website www.rainbowtri.com. The race will be electronically timed by Odessey Timing Co. and results will be posted immediately after each event and on the website at www.odesseytiming.com
